After their successful qualification for the 2019 AFCON in Cameroon courtesy of their 1 -1 draw with South Africa, the Eagles test their mettle against Uganda at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Tuesday
With qualification already in the bag and nothing to play for in the exhibition game, here are 7 things we expect to see
1. The Debut of Samuel Chukwueze
Nigerian soccer fans can’t wait to see new Villarreal Wonderkid Samuel Chukwueze make his eagles debut and will be expecting Rohr to parade the young man in the game against Uganda
Chukwueze is the hottest rave in Nigerian football right now and a real gem of a talent
Scored his first La Liga goal for Villarreal recently and the Uganda game gives us an opportunity to see him close up
2. Our Options As Backup For Alex Iwobi
It’s a given. Alex Iwobi is Nigeria’s creative nexus successfully manning the number 10 role.
But when the Arsenal star is unavailable who mans the role for the Super Eagles?
That’s a question the friendly against Uganda affords us an opportunity to answer with qualification already secured
Disappointing we didn’t get Ebere Eze who would have been a perfect fit for the Eagles or even an Ejaria or Kelechi Nwakali so its more likely Rohr hands this task to Stoke Citys Oghenekaro Etebo
3. The Return of The Isaac Success & Kelechi Iheanacho Combo
The pair formed a deadly partnership during their days at the2013 Fifa U17 World Cup, accounting for most of the goals scored by the team, with Kelechi often intelligently setting up the clinical Success
Success himself recently told Goal.com that Iheanacho is the best player he has played with and that the Leicester city forward thrives best supporting another striker
Iheanacho didn’t cover himself in glory against South Africa paired with Musa and received a lot of flak but perhaps a partnership with Success will help reignite the young man?
4. Plenty of Goals
With so many fringe players trying to impress and stake a claim for spots (especially in the attack and wide areas) expect a tirade of goals from the team.
Players like Henry Onyekuru Victor Osimhen and Moses Simon will do all they can to get on the scoresheet.
Playing without restrictions and without the caution of a competitive game the exciting fleet footed attackers will likely dazzle and hit target a couple of times
5. The Return of Bryan Idowu
Since the emergence of Jamilu Collins, Bryan Idowu has been limited to bench roles for the Super eagles as the Locomotive Moscow defender has seen his place taken by the Paderborn of Germany left back
Colins has not looked back since and has brought stability to the left side of defense.
With qualification secured perhaps Rohr will hand another chance to Idowu to show if he can stake a claim to regain his spot
6. Where Rohr will play Semi Ajayi
We want to see more Semi Ajayi to somehow identify what Rohr sees in the young man.
The Uganda game gives us that opportunity as well as a clue to where Rohr actually prefers to play the versatile defender
Ajayi was brought in at right back for his debut , played in central defence against Liberia and came on in Midfield against South Africa
7. What Theophilus Afelokhai Can offer
Its been bewildering to Nigerian soccer fans how Theophilus Afelokhai who benches Super Eagles no 2 Ikechukwu Ezenwa at local clubside Enyimba has been constantly overlooked by the Eagles handlers
Even though he was eventually Invited against South Africa as a replacement for the injured Francis Uzoho Ezenwa still got the nod ahead of him
Perhaps against Uganda with nothing at stake Rohr will hand Afelokhai an opportunity to show the stuff he is made off
