Players of the Super Eagles have apologized to fans for their humiliating 4-0 loss to Morocco in the final of the 2018 African Nations Championship at the Stade Mohamed V, Casablanca on Sunday
In a largely one sided affair, the Super Eagles were hammered 4-0 by a rampant Atlas Lions who dominated the match from the blast of the whistle
Enugu rangers winger Osas Okoro took to his social media account to apologize to fans of the team
“We really wanted to win for every Nigerian out there but we are sorry about the end result.”
“A lot to learn from this and we thank you for your endless support.” He concluded
Another player who pleaded anonymity said
We tried our best but at the end it wasn’t just enough
It’s painful because we really wanted to win for our fans back home
“We are not happy we let them down”
Morocco won courtesy of goals from Zakaria Hadraf who scored just before the break and completed his brace later , Walid El Karti and tournament top scorer Ayoub El Kaabi who got his 9th of the tournament after hitting the woodwork twice ensured .
Nigeria who finished the match with 10 men after Peter Eneji Moses was sent-off for a second yellow card.
Despite the embarrassing loss this was the best finish for the CHAN Eagles at the tournament so far
