Come Saturday afternoon the footballing world will turn their attention to Ibadan as two traditional rivals, Shooting Stars and Enugu Rangers, clash in a Nigeria Professional Football League matchday 35 fixture at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
Rangers are top of the table with 54 points from 32 matches, while 3SC are 14th on the table with 41 points, just three points outside the relegation bracket meaning the match is of great significance for the two teams: 3SC need a win to aid their push to escape the drop, while maximum points will also be important for Rangers’ title bid.
Rangers will be without star man Tope Olusesi who was handed a three- match ban for headbutting Rivers United’s Bernard Ovoke in last weekend’s fixture.
The Oluyole Warriors’ on their part have been dealing with internal issues and shelved a planned strike over the non payment of six months’ salaries and several match bonuses for the match against rangers but might resume the strike after this weekends encounter
It promises to be an explosive encounter as both team are rich in Nigerian football history and have 11 NPFL titles between them. 3SC have 5, Rangers have 6.
Both teams have also managed 9 clean sheets apiece this season
Rangers have failed to beat their shooting stars in their last five visits to Ibadan.
It has been 32 years since Rangers were crowned league champions but they have never been relegated
