Former Manchester City star Shaun Goater has said Manchester City Manager doesn’t trust young Nigerian Striker Kelechi Iheanacho
The 20 year old Nigerian has been finding game time hard to come by despite his phenomenal goals record and this may worsen in the 2nd half of the season with pep Guardiolas purchase of Brazilian Striker Gabriel Jesus
The Nigerian international was Citys 3rd highest goalscorer last season with 14 goals behind Sergio Aguero and Kevin de Bruyne and enjoyed the confidence of former boss Manuel Pellegrini and this season he has emerged as the premier Leagues deadliest ever striker going by his goals ratio of a goal every 96 minutes
Iheanacho was also on target twice at Hull on Boxing Day taking his tally to 12 goals in 38 Premier League games but despite all these Guardiola often seems reluctant to start him preferring to opt for a false nine
“I’m a massive believer in what a manager does rather than what he says and I’m sure he thinks and says that Kelechi is a great young talent but Guardiola’s actions make it clear that he doesn’t believe he’s good enough.” Goater told sports.bwin.com
“You can’t bring him on with very little time to go to score a goal.
“He obviously doesn’t have confidence in him to play him alongside Aguero more regularly if things aren’t going right.
“He has consistently come on and scored goals but still Guardiola doesn’t trust him.”
The 46 year old Goater played for City for five years until leaving in 2003 scored 32 times in 36 international appearances. He captained City in their final game at Maine Road, which was also his last for the club
