Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi has said he hopes to continue starting games and scoring for his Belgian side KAA gent after his heroics on Wednesday
The 21 year old striker scored a brace in Gents 2-4 victory away against R. Excelsior Virton in the Belgian cup
Awoniyi was happy with the fighting spirit that the whole team showed and said as much in his post-match reaction
“We have fought hard”, the goal scorer is quoted as saying on Gents official website.
“The goals came thanks to my teammates.
We are working hard on training on this and I am glad that it has paid off. ”
The former U20 striker also spoke about whether there were doubts his side would be able to overcome the 2-1 deficit while gent trailed
“They were no doubts”. Awoniyi said
“This is football, anything and everything can happen.”
“We just had to keep on believing and we did.. ”
Gent are up next away at Antwerp on Sunday and Awoniyi hopes he will be selected to also start the game
“You always hope so, but that choice lies with the coach. I keep working hard and then we’ll see. ”
