The Confederation of African Football(CAF), on Thursday, confirmed the appointment of the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) president, Amaju Melvin Pinnick as the first vice president of the continental football governing body.
The apponiment was stated in a letter sent to all football associations associated with CAF on Thursday, after consultations with the CAF Emergency Committee, where the body confirmed Mr. Pinnick as a replacement for Kwesi Nyatakyi who resigned his appointment as CAF first Vice President.
Suspended Ghana FA President Nyantakyi resigned from the post after he was involved in the corruption scandal rocking his country’s football.
The appointment took immediate effect in accordance with Article 27 Paragraph 2 of the statutes which is expected to be ratified by the Executive Committee on the 27th and 28th of September, 2018 in a scheduled session.
It is the highest position occupied by a Nigerian since the fall from grace of former executive committee member Amos Adamu and makes Pinnick, the most powerful football administrator in West Africa and the 2nd most powerful in Africa.
