A brace from skillful forward Chinaza Uchendu was all Nigerias Super Falcons needed to win Bronze at the WAFU Womens Cup on Saturday evening
The Falcons had to comeback from behind to pip the Malian girls 2-1 in the intense hard fought 3rd place match played at the Robert Champroux Stadium Ivory coast
Mali had taken a surprise lead through Diarra Fatoumata as early as the 9th minute when she fired in a screamer from the distance shocking Nigerian fans
However the influential Chinaza Uchendu equalized for the Nigerian girls when she blasted home from close range after her header off Ajibade’s cross was rebuffed by the crossbar in the 15th minute.
Uchendu would then get her brace and give Nigeria the lead when she blasted in from the edge in the 39th minute
The dangerous Diarra Fatoumata almost equalized for the Malians in the 73rd minute but was denied by a superb save from Falcons goal keeper Chiamaka Nnadozie who rose high to deny the Malian
Uchendu who was named woman of the match almost got a hattrick in the 89th minute when she beat her marker in front on the Malian box to score but referee signaled for a foul
This would be the second time the largely experimental Falcons team would the Malians after they also beat them 1-0 in a group game
