Chelsea youngster Ola Aina and Vitoria Setubal’s Mikel Agu are some of the new invitees has been called up by Nigeria for the planned camping programme in France and the international friendly match against the Corsica Senior National Team later this month.
Also in the squad are a homebased quartet which includes MFM FC’s headline-grabbing stars Stephen Odey and Sikiru Olatunbosun as well as the dazzling Alhassan Ibrahim of Awka united
The players are part of a 25-strong squad named by Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana
Ola Aina is belived to have impressed Super Eagles Manager Gernot Rohr when he trained with the team in London and is seen as an option both at left back and right back
Mikel Agu who is on loan at Setubal from FC porto is being rewarded for a solid season in Portugal where he has been consistent in defensive midfield for the Portugese side
The camp in Corsica will open May 24 and then two days later the three-time African champions will play against the Corsica Senior team, before moving camp to Paris, capital of France for the second phase of the camping programme.
First choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme of Wolverhampton Wanderers has been excluded on account of Injury as well as Captain of the side China based Mikel Obi who is also recuperating from an Injury . Chelsea wing back Victor Moses has also been excused.
Aina and Alex Iwobi, whose teams Chelsea and Arsenal have been granted permission to feature for their respective clubs in the English FA Cup final on 27th May before joining the squad in Paris.
The Super Eagles will battle familiar foes South Africa who are yet to defeat Nigeria in a competitive game at senior level at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Saturday, 10th June.
